25年前，云南大理白族村，年轻的扯早与美丽的彩月共同办起了扎染坊，在相互接触中两人萌生了爱慕，不料一场“割资本主义尾巴”的运动使他俩陷入了绝境之中，为了保护彩月，扯早毅然承担起了一切罪名，被投进监狱，彩月无奈之下被迫嫁人。时过境迁，彩月成了寡妇，扯早也成为鳏夫，两人再度相遇，旧情萌发。但扯早却担心两家的晚辈说三道四，欲爱不能。彩月用自己的行动赢得了扯早孩子的敬重，彩月与扯早终于在两家孩子的祝福中拜堂成亲。。The film is based loosely around events in December 1995 that culminated in the murders of three drug dealers in Rettendon, Essex, UK.
