故事发生在1920年的荷兰，汉斯（扬容·斯皮森伯格 Jeroen Spitzenberger 饰）是一名才华横溢的画家，可是，由于他的画风过于复古，所以他所创作的作品在艺术评论家之间并不讨好，甚至有人职责他抄袭前人的作品。 好巧不巧，汉斯爱上了一个名叫乔兰卡（Lize Feryn 饰）的女人，这个女人是一个有夫之妇，她的丈夫正是当时最具话语权的艺术评论家布雷迪乌，汉斯的所作所为就好像在枪口前舞蹈一般，他的艺术事业也因为这件事情而毁于一旦。为了报复愚昧的艺术圈，汉斯决定复制荷兰著名画家约翰尼斯的画作，可是由于汉斯的技艺实在是太高超了，导致他制作的赝品瞒过了包括布雷迪乌在内的所有鉴赏家们。。Waking up chained to the ceiling in a warehouse somewhere in Lithuania Stephen, an ex-soldier, is faced by his interrogators.
