效力于警视厅搜查一课11系“杀人分析班”的巡查部长如月塔子（木村文乃 饰），一直以已故的父亲如月功（仲村亨 饰）作为榜样，她的父亲生前对几件悬而未决的案件始终放心不下，解决悬案也成为塔子成为警察的最大动因。某天，一座废弃的地下室内发现了被水泥封藏起来的尸体，现场所发现的石膏像是唯一线索。未过多久，自称“TOREMI”的嫌疑人致电警方，他提出扑朔迷离的线索，语气中充满戏谑，此后更预告第二起类似的杀人事件。接连两起水泥藏尸案引起警方震惊，塔子在和搭档深入调查的过程中发现，这两起案件似乎与17年前的一起悬案有着千丝万缕的关系…… 本片根据麻见和史的原作《石之茧 警视厅杀人分析班》改编。。山田日後承認在開拍此片之前，已心諳渥美清的肺病步入末期，決定此章為最後一章，並安排由淺丘瑠璃子演的莉莉送寅次郎踏上人生的最後一程。分別15年後，兩人於如詩如畫的奄美大島重逢，感情依舊，鬥氣繼續，沒完沒了似的。正如山田所想，雖然系列必須完結，但始終不想為寅次郎的故事／人生劃上句號。結局如常開放，代表寅一直繼續他的旅程，日本人依然有夢。 公映後翌年，渥美清病逝，享年68歲，本片亦成為他的遺作。 Yamada knew before production began that Atsumi's health has deteriorated to such an extent that Tora-san to the Rescue would be the last film in the series.
